Giuseppe (Joseph) Gustaferro married Maria Macrelli On June 2, 1918

Joseph was a shoemaker from Naples, Italy. He was born May 15, 1890. He immigrated to the United States in 1904, arriving in New York, NY.


Maria Macrelli (Gustaferro) was born in S. Arcangelo, Prov. Forli, Italy, March 30, 1892.

At age 24 and single, she immigrated by herself to the United States of America. She boarded the ship "Duca D Aosta" from Naples, Campania, Italy and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on November 26, 1916.

The States Immigration Officer at Port of Arrival had her 'final destination' listed as Braintree, Massachusetts. She was 5'3", in good health and had $46.00.

Marie and Joseph had three children:
Maria Gustaferro became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States on December 30, 1957 (papers list her as 'widowed'). She was living at 30 Batchelder Street, Roxbury, MA. Her daughter, Dora Buresh, was a witness, (Mary Duka was the other witness).

Frank married Evelyn Destefano who was born May 26, 1920. Frank and Evelyn made their home in Gloucester, MA

Evelyn was born in Revere (the daughter of the late James and Concetta (Cella) Destefano). Frank and Evelyn resided in Medford for many years, and moved to Gloucester in 1970, where they had summered for many years.

Evelyn worked at the former Empire Clothing Store on Main Street in Gloucester and loved Good Harbor Beach and her walks at Long Beach and along the boulevard.

During our research we discovered a photo that Evelyn had given to us for this website. It's a photograph of her late brother, Eddie, who died when Evelyn was quite young.

James Gustaferro was born September 29, 1944.

Jim married Jacqueline Rodgers. They reside in Germany where they both are teachers.

Jim and Jacqueline Gustaferro have 2 daughters; Lee born 1974 and Lyn born 1978.

Jay married Anne Talbot and they reside in Gloucester, Ma.

Jay was active in politics serving as Treasurer of the Gloucester Council of Ageingand Selectman. He's a Commercial Lobster Fisherman and Surfer in Gloucester, MA.

In the year 2000 Jay was in a documentary short film called "Witnesses to the Storm" (written by Don Buckey and Andrew Stachler) where he played the roll of himself (Commercial Fisherman / Surfer)

Dorothy Louise Gustaferro was born in June 20, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dorothy Gustaferro was known as Dora. Dora grew up in Braintree and Roxbury Massachusetts. She married twice and had eight children. .

Dora married James Olen Fordham on February 17, 1942 at age 21, James was age 23.

James was born in Chester, Georgia. His marriage certificate lists him as being from Milledgeville, Georgia. He was in the U.S. Navy, (his occupation was listed as 'Seaman' and Dora's as 'Trimmer-clothes'). Dora's address was listed as 22 Clifton Street, MA.

Dora and Olen had six children:


In 1946 Dora and Olen's address (from Stephen's birth certificate) was listed as 32 Burrell Street, Boston, MA.

In August of 1966, Dora lived in Roxbury when her photo was taken by the Associated Press after her neighbor's home was destroyed by fire and 15 people were led to safety. Below is the photo:

Pearl (Gustaferro) Venturi was born on April 25, 1922.

Pearl married Vinny Venturi. Her brother Frank was the best man and her sister Dora was her maid of honor.
